Learn to Play Guitar Correctly

By Payo W Perry

Learning how to play guitar is quite intimidating when you're just starting out. Usually all you want is to be able to play something, no matter what it is, just to get a musical sound.

Guitar lessons come in all shapes and sizes, so how do you know which ones are going to be best for you?

Firstly you should think about the type of music you enjoy and would eventually like to be able to play. That will give you a basic compass on which to decide everything else. If you are interested in Jazz or Classical guitar for example then expert instruction, preferably one to one guitar lessons are advised.

This is due to the fact that your mastery of correct technique is very important for those styles of music. In other genres technique is not of such consequence and you can enjoy much more freedom to forge your own path. Such examples would be in Blues and Rock where students learn to play guitar free of structured exams or grades.

Too many students accept bad standards of lessons for guitar. If you are feeling frustrated because you're not understanding everything or are unsure about what it is your supposed to practice and how then it's sign you're not getting good quality guitar lessons. Choose your teacher wisely as they can make or break your chances for success.

Using the internet to teach yourself guitar has grown in such popularity over the last few years. As internet speeds become faster and faster it's no longer a problem to watch streaming video online and replay lessons as many times as you wish. Some of the guitar websites are excellent value for money and do offer high quality tuition.

Remember that everything comes with consistent practice and you'll need to be patient in the beginning. Try to steadily build into more advanced techniques and always practice slowly and perfectly.

There really isn't any one and only correct method to learn how to play guitar and that's probably one of the best things about it; the guitar represents a musical freedom in every sense.
