All about Motherhood

By Jayde Johannsen

Motherhood is a state of mind. It's a character. It's a role. It's a state of being. It's also one of the most important jobs you'll take on. And it can be difficult. Let's face it, being a mother is a challenging job and sometimes we need extra help.

You do make mistakes. There are good times and bad, ups and downs. There are, fortunately always ways to overcome difficulties. Remember that when times are looking bleak, there's a silver lining under those dark clouds.

Mothers have many roles. They are among other things caretakers, cooks, entertainment advisors, fashionistas, play coaches, motivational speakers. Being a mother means putting on a wide variety of hats.

Many mothers have to make the decision whether they want to work in addition to taking on the role of a mother. Paid work sometimes is a necessity, not an option. But you can always find a balance. Sometimes it just takes making an extra effort.

When it comes down to it, there really isn't a mystic trick to unlocking the secret of balancing working life and being a mother. You won't find a magic recipe that will make it all work. In fact, often, you'll find you have to improvise. But millions of mothers find themselves in the same boat. Millions of women have been in your shoes.

Working mothers face the difficulty of making time for their children, for their husbands and for their careers. Often times they'll run into the dilemma of when to put effort into getting work done and when to allot time for the kids.

There certainly are many pressures to be dealt with. You want to succeed at work and at home. Many women feel like they aren't dedicating enough time to being with their children and their families. They feel like they have added pressure at work to perform. No one said it was easy.

While it's often incredibly challenging, it's also incredibly rewarding. The need for success at both levels can actually help prompt working mothers to do even more on both fronts. Women who work and raise kids can do both jobs perfectly well.

There's no stopping you once you've set out your goals and decided that you will succeed both as a mother and as a career woman. Ask any working mother out there; they'll tell you that in the end, it's worth every challenge. In the face of adversity it is very possible to exceed.

Of course, there is no fast answer. As a mother you have to find your own balance. Still, there are some simple rules you can adhere to.

Nevertheless, there are some common themes that working mothers encounter when balancing their work life and their home lives.

You also have to plan things carefully. Commit to scheduling.

Another important consideration is planning. It takes careful planning and scheduling to make it all work.

Finally, mothers should realize that they are not alone. There is help out there.
