Creative Make-Up For Stage And Film

By Mike J Jones

There are two key personal attributes that is health and beauty. A number of people like to prefer beauty more than health, as in their view good looks are more imperative than the health. This class of propensity is adopted by media and film industry. A great number of actors, actresses, and directors desire to have good looks in front of camera.

Similarly, theatre actors are known for their great on-stage beauty. Sometimes, the stage actresses put on so much makeup that they look aliens. Otherwise, the quantity of makeup is moderate but it gives them a great sense of beauty and attraction.

These actors use creative make-up to augment their form. This is also the demand of their profession. There is an enormous range of makeup types available for such people. Three main types of makeup are known as best that is used in both the stage and film industries for actors and actresses.

Basic

Basic makeup for film and stage involves a general upkeep in appearance. Actors and actresses get a coating of foundation or face powder. In most cases, this coating is given to protect their skins from the heavy lights. Face powder is also used to stop the flow of skin oils that can otherwise damage the skin and ruin the makeup of any actor. In case of film, the usage of powerful lights measuring in thousands of watts is essential. For stage actors, this is the most common type of make up if they are doing casual roles. In case of special roles, they need a heavy character makeup.

Correctional

This type of makeup is regularly used in film. As the name speaks, correctional makeup is used to eradicate any deficiency and facial features that can spoil the on-screen allure of an actor. The makeup artists say that no face is ideal until it go through the specific hands of a creative makeup artiste.

Any kind of flaws, including facial hairs, acne, warts and cuts by adding second layers of makeup can be hidden. In stage performance acting, correctional makeup is less frequent than films. The main grounds behind this practice are the nominal revelation of stage actors to general public. They only perform in front of a special audience in a theatre.

Character

Character makeup is the most difficult task for a film and stage makeup artists. Creative makeup is necessary to change an actor's facial and body features. This often requires an advanced preparation where an actor and director hold long discussions with the creative makeup artists. They brainstorm about the features needed for that particular character and try to come up with innovative ideas.

Extra layers of foundation or even face painting can be required in this type of make up. Make up artists use water based makeup on face and body to match the required features of the character and the role. On many occasions, the actors have to face severe discomfort and painful stress, as they have to tolerate wax on their face and other materials to look old, injured or sick. This can be reduced by using fine creative makeup material. This is decided by the makeup artist to choose what kind of material to be used on the actor.
