The Awesome Power Of Performance Magic

By Miles Sunkest

So last night I had resigned myself to a lazy night of watching TV. The weather wasn't so hot, and I couldn't find anybody that wanted to do anything. Then a couple of old friends called me up out of the blue. It seems that they had come across some tickets for some show at some club. We all went, not even knowing what kind of show it was going to be. It turned out to be a magician. I have never in my life been so incredibly mesmerized as I was that night. Let me tell you about it.

The first kind of trick was the basic, magician trick they most of them learn in magician school, or wherever they learn tricks. It was the basic sleight of hand trick, where they make stuff appear out of nowhere, and late make it reappear. They way he did it was pretty cool. He would space out the times when he made stuff appear, and disappear so that the crowd would forget what had gone away. Kind of like a skilled comedian will leave a crowd hanging for a while, and then deliver the punch line just at the right time.

After that, he did this crazy mental trick. He asked a few audience members to name a world city, then he asked different members to name famous people from history. He made sure that he picked people at random, with the crowd actually doing the picking. Then when he finished, he pulled out this crumpled up paper and had somebody in the crowd read it. It was a short essay involving all the world cities, and all the historical figures the crowd had named.

After that he started doing these wild psychic tricks. He pretended that he was a professional psychic, but he actually guessed people's names and birthdays and all kinds of other secret stuff perfectly. People were really amazed at his abilities.

Just when we thought he had reached his limit, he asked some people to come on stage. He did this really cool hypnosis, where he hypnotized people into guessing the birthdays of strangers. It was the most bizarre thing I've ever seen.

If you've never seen an up close magician, you definitely should check it out. I had forgotten how incredibly wonderful watching one can be. If you want to really have some fun, you should figure out a way to learn these tricks yourself.
