Gold Coast Holidays to the Hinterland

By Bailey Jamieson

Traditionally people visit the Gold Coast Australia for all the coastal and water based attractions such as swimming, surfing, beaches and the many theme parks and other Gold Coast attractions. But take a step away from the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast main beach to discover the Gold Coast hinterland and you will get the full Gold Coast experience. Be sure to visit the Gold Coast Hinterland destinations such as Springbrook National Park, Canungra and Numinbah Valley. There is so much more to do in the Gold Coast hinterland that is so uniquely different from sites and attractions from anywhere else you may have travelled.

The relaxing and tranquil village of Springbrook is located in the Springbrook National Park and home to Antarctic Beech trees and is a virtual sanctuary to native Australian flora and fauna which leaves visitors with a real sense of returning to, and being a part of nature. Purlingbrook Falls is the most well known and visited of the waterfalls in the Springbrook National Park and is stunning to see in full flow. Within the rain forest there are several kilometres of walking trails and one in particular that leads visitors along a one km trail to the Natural Bridge area within the park. This trail also leads walkers through the Natural Arch to the glow worm cave which is located at Cave Creek. Waringa Pool is located at the foot of the creek and is an opportunity to cool off and refresh.

Canungra is home to the Lamington National Park, the valleys of the Coomera River, Canungra Creek, Binna Burra Resorts and O'Reilly's. The hills and mountains with thick woods are idyllic picnic spots. You can leisurely bushwalk, bird watch or hang-glide. Trekking and hiking in this area will recharge you and make you a new person. On every fourth Saturday of the month, the markets in Canungra will come to special life with fresh produce and local arts and crafts. Canungra is famous for its wineries and also for local cuisine serving eateries.

The Aboriginals of Australia found the narrow valley that appeared as if it was holding two mountains together with its power. They used the word 'Nyummin', which in their language meant 'hold tight country'. The Numinbah Forest Reserve contains Waterfall Creek. The silky oaks and dry Eucalypts are a treat to watch. You can cycle or horse ride in this area after obtaining due permission from the national park authorities.

Visitors seeking accommodation in Springbrook may try the comfort of the Binna Burra Mountain Lodge, Cedar Lake Country Resort, Springbrook Mountain Manor, O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat & Mountain Villas, Boonah Valley Motel, Hardy House Bed & Breakfast and the Mouses House. Accommodation prices of these Gold Coast hotels and Gold Coast resorts vary and start from around $90 per night for budget accommodation and increases significantly for luxury Gold Coast accommodations. Canungra also offers a number of excellent Gold Coast accommodations including Wallaby Ridge Retreat, Baggs of Canungra Bed & Breakfast and O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat. For those who wish to soak up more of the great outdoors, Sharp Park River Bend Country Bush Camping is the cheapest option, with budget priced basic rooms without facilities. For more up market accommodation try the 5-star comfort of O'Reilly's.

The Gold Coast Australia should be on the list of every tourist as an ideal vacation spot. Gold Coast holidays with their beaches and hinterland national parks and rainforests offer extraordinary experience
